Students from 17 different countries will study at UM this semester

Authorities, professors and students welcomed the international students.

University students from Australia, Austria, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hong Kong, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland, and United States arrived to Universidad de Montevideo (UM) to take courses during the first semester of 2019.

On March 7th and 8th, the Rector Juan Manuel Gutiérrez Carrau, representatives of the International Relations Department, deans, professors and staff of Um participated in the orientation days to welcome the international students. The orientation included informative lectures regarding academic, voluntary and sport activities as well as information about library access and other university services. It also included integration games with Uruguayans.

Through an inspiring speech the chancellor encouraged the students to give their best in their time in Uruguay. He advised them to build “the cathedral of their knowledge, of the search for the truth, the cathedral of service and to help the ones in need, also the cathedral of their happiness”, as he told the story about three characters with a different attitude towards work. He concluded his speech with “I wish you all the best in our country. Enjoy, make friends, study a lot and build your own cathedral, as you may know, cathedrals last forever”.
