More than 50 UM prospective students along with international students, alumni and UM staff participated in a new UM Volunteering Program. The initiative aims at cooking and delivering hot food to the homeless. During the past weeks, several baskets scattered all over the place encouraged the UM community to donate food and clothes for the program.
On Monday, June 5 and, Tuesday June, 20 the volunteers met at the UM main building. While some students classified clothes to give away, others prepared food using packages of rice, noodles, lentils, tomato sauce, onions and hundreds of Quick soups, under the title of the event "Pots". The cooking of the stew took place in the kitchen of the university cafeteria. Once the meals were ready, the volunteers toured in different groups in the Old Market place, the Old City and other neighborhoods.
In May, international and local students also visited elderly care homes and shared their time playing with them.
