US Law Program
Each year, the Law School offers courses on the United States law system. UM brings international professors to teach each of the eight courses. Uruguayan and European law is based on Roman Law, while Anglo-Saxon law has a different trajectory. Obligatory for all UM law students, the program seeks to familiarize law students or interested community members with the Anglo-Saxon doctrine.
Joint International Consulting Program
The Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland and the UM IEEM Business School and the School of Business Administration and Economics organizes joint consulting projects funded by Center for International Business Education and Research at the University of Maryland.
In 2011, the joint project consisted of a two-week consulting trip to Montevideo, Uruguay by Smith School students to work cooperatively with MBA and Master in Finance students at UM. The consulting projects were with Wines of Uruguay, the group of Uruguayan winery producers and owners of the 10 most important wineries in Uruguay, and Conaprole, Uruguay's dairy product cooperative.
Faculty-led Programs
UM also receives and coordinates faculty-led programs. In these programs, groups of students led by a faculty member from an international university teach short courses at the Universidad de Montevideo. The faculty members can collaborate with UM professors and open the classes to UM students, or classroom space can be provided for separate classes apart from UM students. In addition, UM can receive groups for personally-designed short courses on a topic of interest.
Past faculty-led programs have been with Cornell College, Western Michigan University, and with the University of Texas at Dallas.
